Apple Inc. broke all records and expectations again with, more than 25 billion apps downloaded for use on iPhones, iPads and other devices.
Visitors to the companies website were greated with a colorful banner on its website expressing it’s thanks to it’s customers: “A billion thanks. 25 times over. The App Store has reached 25 billion downloads. Thanks for getting us there.”
The 25 Billion Apps Countdown started Feb. 13 and contest rules stated the winner of the contest would be listed online within about 10 days after the end of the promotion period. The grand prize is a $10,000 gift certificate to the customer who downloaded the app that pushed Apple over the top.
Last July, Apple’s App Store passed 15 billion downloaded apps. In December, rival Google Inc. announced that its Android Market had passed 10 billion app downloads; Google celebrated the milestone by offering selected apps for 10 cents for a limited time.
