This week the hacktivist group Anonymous is expanded #OpISIS and started #OpParis initiative on twitter. Forming a rather unlikely alliance with the US Government in doing so.
Yesterday we covered what appears to be the start of a Digital War on terror, involving Anonymous and Da’esh. However, this salvo in the War is an extension of what was launched just after the Charlie Hebdo incident.
In the year 2015 Anonymous has managed to dismantle some 149 linked Da’esh websites. Flagged approximately 101,000 Twitter accounts and nearly 6,000 propaganda videos.
Reportly just hours before the attack on Paris occurred social media site facebook moved to close the Anonymous pages on the service. This move was later reversed after the attacks.
With the start of this latest initiative a very unlikely alliance has emerged. Ghost Security Group “GhostSec”, a command and control section of Anonymous, is now coordinating and sharing Information with the United States Government.
These efforts are aimed at detecting attacks before they happen, as well as slowing recruitment, and the destruction of propaganda. Further reducing the number of enemy combatants on the battlefield.
Members of Anonymous are encouraged to report suspected sites. The number of tips reported are said, “to be upwards of 500 per day”. These are reported to the members of “GhostSec” who monitor their tip lines 24/7 and review this information.
Those that are not part of the group are encouraged to report findings to ReportOnlineTerrorism.com.
