So now that we all know about CarrierIQ and it’s logging and tracking one our cell phones. What do we do about it.??
TechCrunch has a great article this morning about shutting it down on your Iphone or your Android. Yep you got that right, IPhone has it as well, turning it off on the Iphone is easier than the Android. If you haven’t got a Smart Phone and are considering one for the Holidays. This article may be something you may want to refer to how how to remove this before you purchase one.
Update 12.06.2011 6:45am – TJ.Wheeler sent in this update from infoworld.com a second security researcher concludes that CarrierIQ is not so invasive afterall. Yet does admit carriers have a long way to got with customer privacy.
Update 12.15.2011 3:22pm – PCWorld’s article today on the Android issue, outlines CarrierIQ’s good intentions but bad implementation.
Update 12.18.2011 1:33am – Mobileburn is reporting Sprint states that all of CarrierIQ is disabled on all of their devices.
Update 01.21.2011 – MSNBC reporting that Sprint is going to be removing CarrierIQ from all of their devices. “As we are no longer using the tool, we have decided to remove Carrier IQ from all devices through a maintenance release process,” said Sprint spokeswoman Stephanie Vinge, in an email to msnbc.com.
