As many know, we have had a rather large number of Earth Quakes in the area that I’m located in now. So this has become something I’ve become pretty interested in as an EARLY warning for a Earth Quake would be nice to know.
The BBC had a great piece this morning on How animals predict earthquakes. It seems back in 2009, some researches began investigating a colony of toads that abandon a pond in L’Aquila Italy just days before a quake.
We have all heard for years about animals acting strangely before a quake, sometimes hours or days before the event. No one has had a clue as to why. That’s until NOW, researchers are saying that the animals may sense chemical changes in the ground water that occur when a quake is about to strike.
The teams findings were published in the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health [PDF].
