Authorities are now down playing this story and that the hacker came from Russia. We covered this article initially here. It would be understandable to that they would back peddle if they knew they had an issue that they couldn’t solve immediately. No group has taken responsibility for the hack either. So not certain which way this story will go next.
Update 11.25.2011 11:09am – Update to original article with NEW info and links to this story located here. Authorities are standing by their claims there was NO HACK, and the security blogger is standing by his that there was.
Update 11.26.2011 8:25am – Washington Post reporting that the Hack was a NON event. The Russian connection was a contractor that had remote access to the system who was travelling in Russia on personal business.
Update 12.1.2011 7:01am – Wired has a great piece they are calling a Comedy of errors. It puts the final nail in the coffin on this story. It almost has the feel of a Hollywood comedy script.
