Weidmüller is an international company with roots in Germany manufacturing a wide product range around electricity and automation. Their latest product is called u-remote – a neat control unit for complex electric systems.   And to promote it they made a cool CGI video starring the u-remote robot that uses his power to improve a production process in a factory. That video was quite successful, so the next step was to have a real-life version at Weidmüller’s booth at the SPS IPC Drives trade fair for automation in Nuremberg. And since we are pretty experienced in doing the robot, they hired us to jump into their costume.

Responsible for the impressive costume were the guys from Steegmüller Skulpturen located in Ostfildern near Stuttgart. They worked day and night for 5 weeks to create a mesmerizing robot suit that wasn’t extremely comfortable to wear, but stunning to look at. All trade fair visitors who made it to Weidmüller’s booth stopped and watched. And many were asking the staff, if that robot was real, which is always the best compliment we can wish for. The combination of costume and our moves made the illusion perfect. And word of mouth propaganda made us become the biggest highlight of the whole event.

Some competitors of Weidmüller even sent their marketing guys to have a closer look. And they all left impressed and – as always – with tons of photos and videos. Our client was extremely happy with all the resonance and we are quite optimistic that this wasn’t the only occasion where you could see the u-remote robot in action. Now, enjoy a bunch of pictures of our performance and scroll down to the bottom for a little video we put together on the train ride back to Berlin.

And of course, if you have a costume for which you need a skilled performer or – to go even further – if you are looking for some good moves for your motion capture creation, don’t hesitate to get in touch. So far, we had robots and masked killers. What’s coming next on our way into the footsteps of world’s most famous body double Andy Serkis (Gollum, King Kong)? We can’t wait to find out. Many thanks to Axel Brinkmann and Hendrik Sichelschmidt from Weidmüller for the booking and the great organization.
